Can You Replace Breakfast with a Protein Shake

Sure, you can replace breakfast with a protein shake BUT don't do it too often. It's not advisable to try and replace meals with protein shakes. Here's why.

A proper eating plan must always be balanced. The body needs proteins, carbs and fat to function properly. If you deliberately restrict any one category, your health will suffer.

For example, if you consume nothing but protein shakes, your energy level will drop to rock bottom because you simply don't have enough carbs! Carb is the body's preferred source of energy. Yes, the body can convert protein into energy, but research has shown that it's very difficult for the body to so.

The body usually burn fat and carb to convert into usable energy. Since the body already has a store of fat, all it really needs is carb. You can consume very little fat and still get along just fine, but if you don't consume your carbs, you will be listless and lethargic all day long.

Every once in a while, if you are really in a rush for time, it's alright to replace your breakfast with a protein shake. At least drinking a protein shake is better than taking nothing at all. But don't let that become a habit.

Your diet must always be balanced. Don't forget that if you are just drinking protein shakes, you are missing out on all the vitamins and fiber that you get in fruits and vegetables.

The best thing to do is to wake up early and drink a protein shake immediately. That is a good habit to cultivate. Spend a little time exercising in the morning before you eat something for breakfast. You don't have to exercise every morning. Two to three times a week is good enough. If it's the weekend, sleep late!

Some individuals are even thinking of replacing meat with protein shakes. A protein shake is NEVER a replacement for proper meals and meat. Don't ever forget that. You can, however, eat less meat for each meal if you are drinking protein shakes daily. But don't cut meat off the menu completely.

If you are really rushing for time, grab a fruit together with your protein shake. At least the fruit can provide you with some additional vitamins.
