Whey Protein Shake -
Viewing: Danielle has this question to ask: Could drinking Whey protein shakes with little to moderate exercise cause you to gain weight? Danielle. Thanks for your question. Can you gain weight from drinking whey protein shakes with little to moderate exercise? That depends on how much whey protein you are drinking, and the amount of physical activities you are engaged in. From experience, whey protein helps to build up lean muscle mass. That is it's primary function. To have big muscles, all you have to do is to stimulate growth by exercising. The heavier the weights, the bigger your muscles will be. And of course, you need to take more protein as you get stronger and lift heavier weights. But without stimulation, two things will happen. The whey protein will be eliminated by the body, or be converted into fat. From experience and past research, it is very difficult for the body to convert protein into fat. It can be done, but requires a lot more effort from the body. That's why the body doesn't like converting proteins from fat. It would rather convert fats and carbs and then store them as fat in the body as reserve energy. So can you gain weight if you drink whey protein shakes with little to moderate exercise? Very unlikely. If you do gain weight, it will just be a little. Besides, even with low to moderate exercise, you will still find that your muscles will get a lot toner. And if you do gain weight, it will be from gaining lean muscle weight (remember that muscle weighs more than fat). So in the long run, it's still a healthy approach to drink whey shakes with low to moderate exercise. If you are worried about turning into incredible hulk...well, let me assure you that it won't happen. All those giant muscles you see in fitness magazines...you are not going to get that big. It probably took them years and hardcore workouts with heavy focus on nutrition in order to get that big - something that won't happen to most folks. Hope that helps :) |
