A pre-workout shake is not as popular because some people think that they don't want the protein to get burned up as energy. They also don't want a full stomach to interfere with the workout.

What most people don't know is the question that Neil asked - should I drink a protein shake on a non gym day? This is a good question. To answer this question, let's first take a look at why we should drink protein shakes.

We drink protein shakes because we know that whey protein can help in muscle growth and recovery. This is the reason why experts recommend drinking a protein shake immediately after your workout.

Bear in mind that your muscles are growing only when you are resting, not when you are working out in the gym. Vitamins and minerals are important because they help the body to absorb nutrients better. You want your body to absorb the whey protein in your protein shakes. To do that, your internal organs have to be healthy and function and optimal level. You should, therefore, be mindful of the vitamins that you consume on a daily basis. You can get your vitamins from fruits and vegetables as well as multivitamins supplements.

Finally, you should take enough protein to fuel muscle growth. The answer to Neil's question is a definite YES. Yes, you should drink a protein shake on a non-gym day. By now, the answer seems obvious. It is when you are resting that your muscles are growing. So feed your body with high quality protein!

Here is a tip - drink at least one serving of protein shake at one go. Don't split up the protein intake into multiple servings - e.g. 5 grams now, 5 grams two hours later and so on. The reason can be found in this article - whey protein may beat casein protein.
