Whey Protein Shake -
Viewing: Zahid Shakoor has a quick question for us: Hello, I would just like to ask a quick question. I want to know if the regular workouts and drinking whey protein straight after workouts would work for a 14 year old? I'm looking to loose a lot of fat and also get decent abs. Hi Zahid, thanks for your question. To answer your question, I think it's good that you understand the role of whey protein shakes in weight loss. When you workout, you are burning fat and stimulating your muscles to grow at the same time. Your muscles DO NOT grow while you are in the gym. Rather, muscles grow during the recovery phase. The only thing you have to do in the gym is to fatigue your muscles enough to stimulate the growth. So it makes sense to say that during the recovery phase, you need to eat well to boost muscle growth. That is where whey protein shakes come in. Whey protein is a very clean form of protein and you can take 1 to 2 shakes a day and all your body takes in is plenty of high quality protein. Because you are trying to lose fat, you want to avoid all types of foods that will build up fat in your body - sugars, junk foods, fatty foods, deep fried foods, etc. In other words, my advice to you is to get adequate nutrition to fuel muscle growth and boost your metabolism while at the same time, burn fat with your workouts. So yes, it is completely alright to drink whey protein shakes straight after workouts. Most whey shakes these days taste quite good and you may actually like them! Your goal here is to tone up your muscles and improve your fitness, which will in turn build up your metabolic rate and help you burn more fat. Working out is just one part of the weight loss program. The key is to get the nutrition right as well. If you get your nutrition wrong, all the workouts in the world would not help you lose fat. You may even experience poorer health due to poor nutrition. In general, your diet should contain high protein, mid carbs, and low fat. That is, 55% protein, 40% carbs (you need carbs to get energy for your workouts), and 5% fat. Or 50% protein, 45% carbs, 5% fat. Note that sticking to such a diet is easier said than done. You try it! Foods get consumed all day long without being accounted for. Meals are consumed at social gatherings with lots of calories. Eating out at restaurants and then ordering something that will set you back...the list goes on. It requires discipline for your fat loss program to work - not only in terms of working out but also in terms of nutrition. But if you get this right, the reward is that you enjoy a healthier life and you look way better. |
