Glutamine Whey Protein

Do you really need to take glutamine whey protein? The answer lies in your exercise program.

Glutamine and whey protein are two different substances that are consumed for different reasons. The amount for each that you should consume depends on two things - your workout and your weight.

Of course, the heavier you weigh, the more whey protein you should consume. If you weight 300 pounds, you need 300g of protein because your body has more muscle mass. You need more protein to support the repair and growth of your muscles.

But for glutamine, you don't need that much. Every product that you purchase comes with a recommended serving. Research has shown that a daily serving of between 5g to 15g works best. If you are smaller in size, 5g a day of glutamine will be good enough for you. If you are a heavy person, you may need 15g. There is no need for you to take excess because anything more than the recommended dosage will just be passed out by the body. The body eliminates anything that it doesn't need.

Unlike whey protein, glutamine is not for muscle growth. It's to preserve your joints. When you work out on a daily basis, especially with heavy weights, your joints undergo a lot of stress. There is a depletion of natural glutamine. So you consume glutamine to replace the depletion to enable yourself to continue working out intensely.

A troubled joint can hinder your workout and slow your progress. So it definitely makes sense to consume glutamine along with your whey protein. In any case, glutamine is not expensive. And you don't need huge servings - just 5g to 15g will do for the day. So you don't have to worry about digging deep into your pockets just to be able to afford glutamine.

Some whey protein shakes already contain glutamine. So you don't have to take the nutrient separately. Be sure to read the nutritional labels to find out if the amount per serving is adequate for you.

Just like protein shakes, be sure to distribute your consumption throughout the day. (Read more about How to Take Whey Protein) For instance, if you need 15g of glutamine whey protein per day, take it in 3 dosages instead of 1. Have 1 dose in the morning, 1 before your workout, and 1 before you go to bed. The body is better able to absorb the glutamine this way. Try not to consume all 15g at one go.
