How Fast Do Protein Shakes Work?

Want to lose weight fast? Perhaps protein shakes can help you. Once in a while, I come across questions like "how fast do protein shakes work?"

Well, the answer really depends on what you are trying to achieve. For instance, are you trying to lose 30 pounds in 8 weeks? And what if you don't achieve what you want within the stipulated time frame? Does that mean the protein shakes don't work?

The truth is, protein shakes do work - especially those that contain fast absorbing whey protein powder. It works in the sense that it can really help build lean muscle mass very quickly - provided you are doing all the right things. What are these so-called "right things"?

Your exercise program - You can't expect protein shakes to show results quickly if you are not exercising intensely enough. A leisure walk in the park isn't what you call a work out. The workout has to be intense enough to raise your heart rate significantly (i.e. 60% of MHR and above). If you are aren't doing that, then you are not working out properly and you can forget about seeing good results.

Your overall eating plan - Protein shakes is just part of your overall eating plan. They will help you achieve your daily protein intake. So you must know how much protein you are supposed to take for the day. For example, if you drink 1 protein shake per day, and the shake contains 30 grams of protein, that is the amount of protein you have gained from consuming the shake. But surely, 30 grams isn't enough protein for the whole day. As a general rule of thumb, to get big quickly, you have to consume 1 gram of protein for every pound you weigh. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you should consume 150 grams of protein each day. Still think that drinking 1 protein shake is enough? Think again.

The best advice I can give you - be patient. It takes time for muscles to build up - i.e. it takes many repetitions of stress and recovery for muscles to grow. Don't expect to become huge after just 2 weeks. 4 to 6 weeks would be a more reasonable time frame. You will literally see the difference in the mirror.

For fast results, try to add whey protein powder to your protein shakes. Here is an article on how fast whey protein powder work.
