Protein Shake Replace Meat

Thinking of replacing meat with protein shakes? Well, think again.

You have to remember, protein powders are human manufactured. They are developed with only one purpose in mind - to help you repair and grow lean muscle tissue as quickly as possible. The formula is carefully engineered to achieve this sole purpose.

Therefore, it's never wise to try and replace meat totally with protein shakes. Yes, meat does contain protein. But the protein that you find in meat is not the same as the protein that you find in whey protein products.

Whey protein products usually contain BCAAs - branched chain amino acids. A serving of whey protein may contain about 10% BCAAs. Such amino acids can be directly absorbed by the body. So the protein disappears from the system very quickly. i.e. it's used by the body almost immediately upon consumption.

Protein that comes from meat is completely natural. The body takes more time to digest the protein and use it for muscle growth and repair. In a sense, this may be better for the body because the body now has a steady supply of protein.

Meat may also contain carb and fat, which is essential for the body to function properly. Protein shakes usually contain just 2 grams of carb and 1 gram of fat.

Besides, there is always the issue of getting tired of protein shakes. It doesn't matter what flavor you choose, 3 shakes a day and you will feel pretty sick of the drinks after a few months.

So try not to replace meat with protein shakes. See protein drinks as protein supplements. Also, try not to Replace Meals with Protein Shakes.

It's good to take supplements, but you mustn't upset the balance of your diet. By eliminating certain foods (like meat) from your diet completely, you are depriving your body of important nutrients and vitamins that it needs for daily functioning.

The best thing to do is to drink one shake in the morning, and one shake in the evening. Wake up early in the morning and drink a protein shake immediately. Then start with a brief morning exercise before take breakfast.

Your breakfast will be your first proper meal of the day, and should contain between 500 to 800 calories, depending on your own needs. Take lunch and dinner as per normal, with each meal containing similar amount of calories. Then before you head off for bed in the evening, drink another protein shake. That should give you enough protein for the day.

Remember, it's always better to have a steady supply of protein throughout the day. So don't try to drink 2 shakes at one go and be done with it. The body doesn't work that way. If it receives too much protein at one go, the excess will either be passed out by the body, or be stored as fat.

Enjoy your protein shakes, but make sure you eat your meat as well!
