Should I Take a Protein Shake Between Work Out Days?

I see this question being asked a lot: Should I Take a Protein Shake Between Work Out Days?

You have to remember, a protein shake is a supplement. It is not some kind of magic potion that will turn you into Hercules overnight.

So you need to start thinking of protein shakes as food - just that it's very high quality food. You are never going to find such high quality protein in our daily meals. That's why protein shakes are useful. They help to fill in the gap whenever there is a short fall.

Once you have worked out your daily protein intake, use protein shakes as a means to reach your goals. Don't worry about whether it's a work out day or a non work out day.

Do you eat on your non-workout day? The answer is obviously yes! The reason why you eat is because your body needs food to convert into energy and to fulfill various body functions.

Even when you are not working out, this process is constantly taking place. In fact, if you are not working out on certain days, those are likely to be your rest days.

Your muscles grow while you are resting. So feed your muscles! Continue giving your muscles the proteins they need to repair and grow.

There is nothing wrong with drinking shakes on non-workout days if you feel that you need the extra supplement.

The best piece of advice that I can give you is to distribute your protein intake. Don't consume too much protein at one go. For example, if you are having 5 eggs for breakfast, then save your protein shake. Leave it for the evening, or before you go to bed.

Your body won't use up all the proteins at one go. It'll be more effective if you can consume them at intervals. If you insist of consuming too much within a short period of time, the excess may be converted to fats! It is very difficult for the body to convert proteins to fat, and the body prefer not to do this if possible. But if there is too much excess, the body simply doesn't know how to handle the volume, and some of the protein gets converted into fats.

As a fitness enthusiast, that is never a good thing to happen.

So drink your shakes at regular intervals, even during days between your workouts, and you do just fine.
