Whey Protein Shake -
Viewing: Drax has a question for us: I started to take protein shakes few days ago and it gives me diarrhea each time i take protein shake. Why is it like that? Is it because my body is still trying to adapt or I am lactose intolerance? Btw, milk and yogurt are fine with me. i can consume them without any problem. Thank you. Hi Drax, thanks for your question. The fact that you can drink milk and eat yogurt with no adverse effects is an indication that you are probably not lactose intolerant. However, bear in mind that different people react to protein shakes in a different manner. The results are more unpredictable when you are just starting to consume protein shakes, or when you are trying a new brand of protein powder. It's hard to determine what causes the diarrhea because as you know, diarrhea can be caused by many things. It may be something you eat or drink, stress, bacteria, diet changes, etc. So to say that protein shakes is the real cause of the diarrhea, you have to rule out all those other reasons, which can be difficult. It is unlikely that protein shakes is the cause of your diarrhea because most modern protein shakes are designed to go easy on the stomach. You may feel a little uneasy when you first start to take protein shakes but after a couple of weeks or so, you would have adapted and will start to love the protein drinks. Of course, don't underestimate the consequences of having diarrhea. If you are still having diarrhea and feeling pain or discomfort, please check with your doctor. Never assume anything when there is something wrong with your body. Even though it is unlikely that protein shakes are causing you to have diarrhea, it is still possible that your body may be allergic to some soy or milk ingredients in the whey protein powder. So be sure to investigate further and go see a doctor if you are starting to experience symptoms that you feel uneasy about. Hope that helps. |
