Whey Protein Shake -
Viewing: Thinking of taking whey protein without working out? Let's find out if this approach will work. Why would someone want to take whey protein without working out? I can think of a number of scenarios. 1) The individual doesn't have the time to workout. 2) The individual wants to achieve his or her goals without going through pain. 3) Whey protein is perceived as some magic powder that will help grow muscles. 4) The individual wonders if whey protein should be consumed on non-workout days. Let's take a look at the above scenarios one at a time. Scenario 1: No time to workout. - Whey protein then becomes some kind of quick fix for good health. Unfortunately, whey protein doesn't work that way. If you don't workout, all the quality protein will just go to waste. Your body will either remove the excess protein, or part of the protein gets converted into fat (yucks!). And that's probably not what you are after. Scenario 2: Avoiding pain. - Some people just can't think of stressing their bodies. So they avoid working out at all cost and try to manage their weight through diet alone. Again, it doesn't work that way. Diet alone CANNOT change your metabolism and if you want consistent results, then you must engage in some form of exercise. Even low to moderate exercises are better than not exercising at all. Scenario 3: Whey protein does all the work. - Then there are those who believe that whey protein powder is some kind of magic powder that can perform miracles. They can burn fat and help reveal 6 pack abs. Think that is true? Of course not! Whey protein cannot help you burn fat if you don't workout. The protein helps you to BUILD MUSCLES. This is important so I'll repeat it again. You want to build LEAN MUSCLE MASS by consuming whey protein. To do that, you have to engage in some form of resistance training. The training will provide the necessary stimulation for the muscles to grow big and strong. Only then will your body become a furnace for fat burning. Scenario 4: Whey protein on recovery days. - All experienced sports people and bodybuilders know this. It is actually very difficult to stay on a consistent diet day after day after day...I mean, you try it! Then you will understand the discipline that you will need to eat consistently. The reason why I mentioned this is because you shouldn't neglect your diet just because you are not working out on recovery days. Remember, your muscles grow will you are OUT of the gym; not while you are working out. So be sure to consume enough protein on recovery days to gain lean muscle mass. Here is more information on consuming whey protein on non-workout days. Another good article on whether you can take whey protein without working out. |
