Whey Protein Shake -
Viewing: So you made a protein shake, but then didn't consume it immediately and you left it in the fridge. After a few hours, it turns foamy. Is it still safe to drink? Let's find out.
There is really no good reason for you to make a protein shake, and then not drink it immediately. You should not be preparing the whey protein shake if you are not going to drink it instantly. Try preparing a whey protein shake, and then leave it in the fridge for a few hours just as an experiment. You will observe that the protein shake becomes foamy after 2 to 3 hours. You won't even feel like drinking it. If it's for a few short hours, the protein shake is still safe for consumption. Just stir it up well or blend it again. The reason why the protein shake becomes foamy is because the ingredients in the shake starts to produce air when the shake is left to sit. The air forms the bubbles. So there is nothing wrong with consuming the shake when its only left to sit for a few short hours because you know that the ingredients are still in a healthy state. In other words, the shake doesn't contain any toxins that may be harmful to your body. But this is no longer true if your whey protein shake is left to sit for a few days. When that happens, just throw the shake away and make a fresh one - for safety's sake. Some people claim that they are able to drink their protein shakes even though the drinks have been left to sit in the fridge for a few days. They are actually taking a risk with their health. If any ingredients in the shake has turned bad, then they may encounter food poisoning. Food poisoning can be trivial, or it can be severe. So DO NOT risk your health for nothing. A couple of bucks down the drain won't cost you much. A trip to the hospital may cost you a lot. So common sense tells us to avoid taking such unnecessary risks. If the whey protein shake has been around for days - THROW IT AWAY. It takes just a few minutes to make a fresh protein shake. If you really don't want to make your own protein shakes, and you want to enjoy the convenience of ready made shakes, then be prepared to fork out a lot more money for the drinks. Pre-packed shakes are readily available and they taste good when served chilled. So you can keep them in the fridge and grab one whenever you feel like drinking a protein shake. The only downside is that a pre-packed shake can cost 2 to 3 times more than a self made protein shake. |
